Meet the Founder

Kevin Maher

Founder

Kevin founded VetMeasure, in September 2015 with the goal to create a technology that supports animal services within veterinary medicine. From VetMeasure the MeasureON! animal health monitoring harness was born. Kevin is located in VetMeasure’s primary office at Iowa State University Research Park. Kevin has 30+ years of experience in the animal health industry and bringing new technologies to the veterinary profession.

Grace Hoversten

Communications and Operations Intern

Grace joined the VetMeasure team in March of 2022. She is currently a sophomore at Iowa State University double majoring in Business Management and Marketing. She has always had an interest and a passion for agriculture and animals. Her role at VetMeasure is customer success, product improvement, and internal operations.

Kiana Smutzler

Sales and Marketing Intern

Kiana joined the VetMeasure team in April 2022. She is currently a senior at Iowa State University majoring in Animal Science with a minor in General Business. Her experience with animals started with volunteering at animal shelters and led to fostering and training service dogs for veterans and children with disabilities. Currently, her role at VetMeasure is to research and develop marketing opportunities while also connecting with veterinarians and meeting customer needs.

Steven Garnett DVM DACVS-SA

Veterinary Advisor

Dr. Garnett grew up in northeast Ohio and attended The Ohio State University for his undergraduate degree. He then attended veterinary school at Ross University. After obtaining his veterinary degree, he completed a rotating internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in NYC and a surgical residency at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He then moved to the Washington DC area and worked as the primary surgeon at Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral. In 2019 he made the move to Charleston to join the team at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center where he is currently practicing. Dr. Garnett joined the VetMeasure team in 2020 as a veterinary advisor to assist in the advancement of the MeasureON! Monitor. 

Dr. Garnett enjoys all aspects of surgery, however, he has a particular interest in surgical oncology, trauma, and fracture management. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Society of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery, Veterinary Orthopedic Society, and Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Lonnie King

Board Member

Lonnie King, DVM, MS, MPA, ACVPM, is Dean Emeritus of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Academy Professor at The Ohio State University. He has served as dean for 3 colleges for over 17 years. Most recently (2016-17), he was the interim dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University and was also the VP for Agriculture. Furthermore, he was also dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University from 2009 – 2015. At Ohio State, Dr. King held the Ruth Stanton Endowed Chair and served as the Executive Dean for the 7 health science colleges at the university. Before becoming dean at OSU, he was the first Director of the National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne, and Enteric Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. King served as the dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University for ten years and was also an administrator for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), U.S. Department of Agriculture, in Washington, DC, and was the country’s chief veterinary officer for five years. In 2004 Dr. King was elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine of The National Academies of Science. He was awarded the Global One Health Award presented in 2013 and currently is the Vice-Chair for the President’s Advisory Council Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria. Now Dr. King is serving on the boards or in advisory roles for 10 organizations and companies.

Brian Cox

Board Member

Brian is a self-employed technology consultant based in Marshalltown, Iowa. He is also a staff member of the ISU Research Foundation as Entrepreneur in Residence. He has 40 years of experience in technology development, working in the aerospace and telecommunications industries. Brian is currently active in both equally important technology development and business development, with a diverse cross-section of technologies. These technologies include satellite communications, software development, GIS, 5G wireless, precision agriculture, and renewable energy. 

After graduating from Iowa State University, Brian started his career at Boeing Aerospace in Seattle, WA, working in antenna design. At Ball Aerospace in Boulder, CO he spent over 20 years in the development of antennas, RF systems, computer-aided-design, phased arrays, and mobile satellite systems for in-flight communications. He joined AirCell in 1999 and spent 5 years developing systems for air-to-ground communications. In fact, from a small company with 30 employees, AirCell has since become the largest provider of in-flight communication systems in the world. Brian has a BSEE degree from ISU and an MS degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Colorado.
